Erosion And Sediment Control

Get in Touch Today!

Erosion control is a core requirement for the longevity of your revegetation or landscaping project, especially on significant inclines. There are legal requirements of landholders to minimise short- and long-term soil erosion and minimise adverse effects of sediment transportation.

OUR METHODS

Hydromulching

  • Hydromulching provides a cost effective way to revegetate and prevent erosion With the easy combination of grasses and seeds, hydromulching can be used to bring highly eroded areas back to life.
  • Used in combination with other methods, hydromulching can be effective, even on the steepest slopes.

Jute Meshing (Soil Saver)

  • Heavy woven jute mesh holds seed and soil intact on slopes, drainage ways and other areas of water flow.
  • Jute meshing is particularly good at preventing erosion during rainstorms.
  • Because of its mesh formation, vegetation has plenty of growing room. It gives you the freedom to select a variety of grasses or ground covers that best suit local and climatic conditions.

Jute Matting

  • Often referred to as a “blanket”, unlike Jute Mesh, OFM’s are a complete blanket usually made from Jute, Coconut Fibre or Coir.
  • Where grassing is the intended use the seed can be sown either under the mat before placing or into the mat when placed.
  • A thinner mat allows the grasses to grow through it providing protection to the soil against storm and tempest until the grasses are established, but thicker mats are available, if needed.

Synthetic Matting

  • There are a number of non-organic mats and netting available that are made from synthetic materials. These are usually UV Stabilized and are specified for the more extreme situations where greater protection and strength is required.
  • Synthetic matting is stronger and is able to hold the soil together whilst grass establishes through them in tougher conditions.
  • In some cases, they are placed so that they are covered with topsoil and then seeded over.

Sediment Control Logs (“Straw Wattles”)

  • Sediment control logs, or ‘straw wattles’ are cylindrical shaped logs are made from Coir, Coconut or Straw.
  • They are particularly useful on steep slopes where they act as contour banks.
  • They can also be used along waterways where aquatic plants can be planted unto them, whilst at the same time are providing stability at the water’s edge.

Biodegradable Coir Logs

  • Constructed out of natural coir (coconut) fibre, Coir Fibre Logs are fully biodegradable and last for up to four years. • Used primarily on hills, banks, shorelines, and other erosion prone areas as a neutral growth promotion medium for maximum effectiveness.

Naturally made Bio Pins

  • A breakthrough in botanical science, BioPin is a 100% biodegradable pin used to anchor erosion control blankets and turf. A fully environmentally sustainable alternative to wire pins, Bio Pins are comparable to metal or hard plastics in stopping power. Bio Pins are made from a special Polyhrydroxyalkanoate plastic made from natural plant sugars and vegetable oils.

Reliable U Pins

Cost-effective and simple to install, landscapers can use steel-fabricated and pointed-tip U Pins to secure the base of fencing, and bird netting to prevent movement. We can supply longer pins for soft ground or steeper slopes.

Silt Fence

Silt fence is a temporary sediment control device to contain coarse sediments runoff used on a variety of work sites.

Made from a woven geotextile fabric it is installed with timber stakes or star pickets along the downhill side of the fence.

The silt fence should create a barrier where runoff pools and allows water to flow through the fence while containing coarse sediments.
