LANDSCAPE & RE VEGETATION GRASSES

Landscape Grasses

Landscape Grasses are a select range of native grasses chosen for their ornamental qualities. These grasses make great garden plants and can be used to great effect on roadsides, housing estates and public and residential gardens. Grasses are favoured by designers for their foliage texture and colours that change with the seasons to add interest to the landscape throughout the year. Poa, Pennisetum and Themeda varieties are grouped in this category.

Revegetation Grasses

Revegetation Grasses are native grasses used to re-grass native bushland and riparian zones. They form the understory and provide erosion control along with habitat for native animals. Grasses are an essential part of any successful native bushland regeneration project. Eragrostis, Imperata are some of our favourites.

WETLAND PLANTS

Common Sedges

Sedges are a grouping of plants that are suited to growing in wet, boggy areas when wet and survive periodic drying during dry seasons. These plants often grow in riparian zones on the edge of lakes, rivers and creeks as well as ephemeral swamps and drainage lines from the coast to inland climates. Sedges are ideal for Rain Gardens as they soak up nutrients from stormwater runoff. They are also ideal for Constructed Wetlands and should form the foundation to any riparian re-vegetation project.

Sedges For Ornamental Landscaping.

Sedges are plants suited to growing in wet, boggy areas and are adaptable to growing in dry situations as well. In their natural environment, many sedges grow in ephemeral swamps and drainage lines where they can be inundated with water in wet seasons and are dry during dry times.

They naturally have a high drought tolerance perfect for xeriscape styled gardens and constructed dry creek beds and wetlands.

Macrophytes

Macrophytes are aquatic plants that grow in or on the edge of saline and fresh water bodies. Macrophytes can be either emergent, (growing above the water line), submergent or floating. Macrophytes are an important component in both natural and constructed wetlands as they provide food and shelter for fish, aquatic invertebrates and water birds. Macrophytes also aid in the removal of nutrients from storm water runoff.
